Reverend Charles Doerpers
Permanent Deacon
Permanent Deacon
he attended Bowling Green State University earning a B.S. in Business
Administration majoring in Information Technology. After graduating he
worked in Toledo for five years and then moved to Cleveland for job
advancement. He has worked for The Sherwin-Williams Company for almost
30 years.
This move to Cleveland also allowed him to meet a beautiful person named Diane. In 1978 Deacon Charles and Diane were married. Diane was a strict Catholic and attended Mass regularly and lives her faith. At the time Deacon Charles was not Catholic but attended Mass with her at Holy Redeemer in Collinwood where she grew up. It wasn't long before the questions started and his interest peaked in learning more about The Roman Catholic Church. After talking with the pastor, Fr. James J. Grandillo, and receiving personal instruction from him about the Catholic Faith, he entered the Roman Catholic Church as a believer. But, his love for the Church did not stop there. He entered the Diaconate program, in the fall of 1995, and was ordained a Deacon on May 23, 1998.
The first 4 years of being a deacon was spent at Holy Redeemer in Collinwood. In January of 2002 Airport Ministry called and Deacon Charles became the Director of Catholic Services at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport. The City of Cleveland then made a business decision to replace the airport chapel with retail stores. Today, Deacon Charles is assigned to St. John of the Cross and is looking forward to serving and assisting the parish and pastor.
Deacon Charles and Diane live in Highland Heights with their 4 cats. Spare time hobbies include audio books, computer work, traveling, and being a certified Master SCUBA Diver.

Deacon Charles B. Doerpers was born on August
16, 1949 to Bernard and Mary Ann Doerpers. He
grew up in a medium size town in Southwestern
Ohio, in-between Cincinnati and Dayton, called
Hamilton. After graduating from Taft High School
