Elementary School
The 2010-2011 school year will begin the first chapter in the story that will become St. John of the
Cross School. On August 25th over 350 students in grades K-8 will be welcomed back to school.
This new school year promises to be filled with quality learning and meaningful faith experiences
rooted in service, justice, and community. The social justice theme that will be our focus is “Call to
Family, Community, and Participation.” A most appropriate choice, as we unite with our parish and
become one, the community of St. John of the Cross!
We are anxious to show off our new computer lab. As the result of a continued commitment to our
school and the generosity of many school and parish families, the new computer lab was relocated
to the main school building. It houses 25 computers with full Internet access. This will afford the
students an extended computer period each week. A perfect addition to our school program
dedicated to preparing students with 21st century skills.
Our school name has changed but the purpose for which we are called will be everlasting –
“Providing a quality educational program which integrates Catholic Christian truths and values with
a life-centered curriculum. This atmosphere is the framework for the love and structure that prepares
students for higher education with the ultimate goal of becoming messengers of the Good News
in their family, parish, and neighborhood communities.”
Please keep the students, the teachers, and the parents of St. John of the Cross School in your
prayers as we begin this new school year.

The St. John of the Cross School children will be participating in a Walk-a-Thon on
September 30, 2011. The goal of the walkathon is not only to encourage physical fitness, but
also to encourage the spirit of working together to earn money, and for spirit-raising among
our students. The students will ask family and friends to sponsor them for walking on the
school grounds for a specified amount of time. The funds from this year’s Walk-a-Thon will
be used to make capital improvements to our school and to build the school endowment fund.
Parishioners are invited to get involved by sponsoring teachers and other staff members who
will be participating in the Walk-a-Thon. Those who own or work at a company that may be
willing to be Corporate Sponsors are also invited to participate. Every family or business that
donates $200 or more will have their name printed on the official Walk-a-Thon t-shirt. Of
course, any level of sponsorship will be greatly appreciated and will contribute to our success!
Sponsorship forms will be available after all Masses on the weekends of September 3-4 &
10-11. Call the school office at (216)261-1240 if you have any questions.
